Sydney Opera House Lights Up For Wallabies

The Sydney Opera House was lit up in green & gold tonight ahead of the Rugby World Cup Final between Australia & New Zealand in London.

New South Wales (NSW) Government’s Minister For Trade, Tourism, Major Events & Sport, Stuart Ayres, said the whole of NSW was behind the Wallabies as they attempt to claim the World Cup for the 1st time since 1999.

“Sydney & NSW are turning up our support for the Wallabies as we light up the iconic Sydney Opera House to cheer the team on. I’ll be setting the alarm for Sunday morning & wish the team the very best of luck,” Mr Ayres said.

“NSW is the home of Australian rugby & it’s fitting that one of our most iconic buildings is dressed up to celebrate the Wallabies.”

“NSW is Australia’s sporting capital, playing host to events including the Cricket World Cup, Asian Cup football, Netball World Cup, Bledisloe Cup & in 2013, the tour by the British and Irish Lions.”

“From 6-7 February next year, Sydney will also host the Sydney Sevens at Allianz Stadium, with fast-paced sevens rugby on display in the summer sunshine” he said.

Destination NSW Chief Executive Officer, Sandra Chipchase, said that NSW will continue to support major rugby events in 2016.

“In addition to the Sydney Sevens, Sydney will also be hosting the Bledisloe Cup for another year at ANZ Stadium. It will be a fantastic occasion, a World Cup Final replay & like all Aussies, I can’t wait to see the Wallabies emerge victorious as we all support them this weekend at Twickenham” Ms Chipchase said.

The Rugby World Cup Final between Australia & New Zealand will kick-off at 3am on the morning of Sunday 1 November. The Sydney Opera House will be lit from 8pm-12am on Friday & Saturday night.

Tickets to the Sydney Sevens are still available & more information can be found at www.sydneysevens.com.au.

Sydney Opera House Going Green & Gold For Rugby World Cup Final

Australia’s iconic Sydney Opera House will turn green & gold in support of the Wallabies as they prepare to face the ultimate test against New Zealand in the Rugby World Cup Final in England early on Sunday morning.

Deputy Premier Of New South Wales (NSW), Troy Grant, and Minister For Trade, Tourism, Major Events & Sport, Stuart Ayres, made the announcement on the Sydney Opera House steps today flanked by injured Wallabies World Cup lock Will Skelton, FOX SPORTS presenter Matt Shirvington & a group of keen young Wallabies fans.

From 8pm AEDT tomorrow (Friday 30 October), the sails of the Sydney Opera House will be illuminated in the green & gold colours of the Wallabies in a spectacular showing of support for the team ahead of its date with destiny.

The famous sails will be wrapped in green & gold again on Saturday night until midnight, prior to kick off in the match at 3am AEDT on Sunday morning (1 November).

Minister For Trade, Tourism, Major Events & Sport, Stuart Ayres, said: “Sydney is the home of rugby in Australia & what better way to show our support than lighting up our iconic Sydney Opera House.”

“I encourage everyone across NSW & Australia to set your alarms, put out your best green and gold & cheer home our mighty Wallabies!”

Deputy Premier & Minister For Arts, Troy Grant, said it is only fitting Australia’s most iconic building sports the green & gold ahead of an iconic event.

“Our Wallabies will know when they see the Opera House’s sails light up that everyone back home will be cheering hard & loud” Mr Grant said.

“From Broken Hill to the Riverina & up north to the Tweed, every fan across NSW & Australia is right behind our boys – let’s show the Kiwis what we’re made of.”

Will Skelton, the giant 140kg lock who was ruled out of the remainder of the Rugby World Cup after injuring his shoulder during the Wallabies 65-3 victory over Uruguay early in the tournament, said the players had felt the support from Aussie fans from the other side of the globe.

“The boys are really aware of the support back here at home & have enjoyed a lot of support over in England as well. Having such incredible support from the whole country has really lifted the team & I know the boys really want to make Australia proud when they run out on Sunday” said Skelton.

The Rugby World Cup 2015 Final between the Wallabies & New Zealand will be screened live in Australia on FOX SPORTS, 9 & GEM.

Beware The Mystery Party Misery

NSW Fair Trading Commissioner Rod Stowe today issued a warning to the public about the risks associated with mystery parties, particularly on New Year’s Eve.

Mr Stowe said Fair Trading received numerous complaints early this year about a failed mystery New Year’s Eve party in 2014 that failed to deliver on promises and was eventually closed down by authorities.

“While a mystery party may sound spontaneous and exclusive, consumers should be very wary of buying tickets to mystery events where the promoter’s details and event locations cannot be readily identified,” he said.

Tips for interested party-goers include:

  • Purchase event tickets from reputable ticket outlets only – avoid buying tickets through social media
  • Pay for tickets using a credit card where possible – financial institutions may be able to arrange a credit ‘charge back’ if you don’t get what you paid for
  • If you decide to attend a mystery party, make sure you let a loved one know where you will be
  • Be aware that if the mystery party does not deliver what it promises, you may not be able to recover the money paid for tickets, food, drinks etc.

“It is an offence under the Australian Consumer Law to accept payment for goods and services if those goods and services are not supplied,” Mr Stowe said.

“However, it can be very difficult for consumers to obtain a refund and regulators to pursue rogue traders in these cases as those traders are often unable to be identified or located.”

In November 2014 a promoter advertised a mystery New Year’s Eve Mansion Party through his social media page on Facebook. The promotional materials included a short video showing a mansion on the Sydney Harbour foreshore.

Consumers bought tickets ranging in price from $99 to $199 covering entry to the venue only. Vouchers for alcoholic drinks were sold on the night at an additional cost of $10 per drink with a minimum spend of $50.

On 31 December 2014, ticket holders were e-mailed advice about the location of the party, a property in Rose Bay, as well as instructions on how to get public transport to the event.

On the night it was evident the promoter had oversold the event with approximately 700 ticket holders attending the location, resulting in insufficient seating, toilet facilities and security.

Consumers complained the venue was not the same venue promoted on social media, the venue had an obstructed view of the harbour and people were unable to redeem pre-paid drink vouchers. The pool had been partially covered with a dance floor leaving the uncovered area presenting a health and safety risk.

“The promoter subsequently closed his business and reportedly moved overseas,” Mr Stowe said.

P&O Cruises Australia To Make History As Australian Stars Name Pacific Aria & Pacific Eden By Twitter

In a social media first, P&O Cruises Australia has revealed that its latest ships, Pacific Aria and Pacific Eden, will be officially named by singer Jessica Mauboy and actress Kate Ritchie – via Twitter.

Announcing the identity of the godmothers, P&O Cruises Australia said the popular Australian personalities would both tweet the official naming words in a spectacular dual christening ceremony on Fort Denison as the 2 ships sail either side of the Sydney Harbour landmark on November 25.

The social media launch will also see the naming posted simultaneously on the godmothers’ Facebook and Instagram accounts and shared by P&O Cruises Australia across its platforms.

Ann Sherry, CEO for Carnival Australia, which operates P&O Cruises Australia, said the cruise line was thrilled that 2 famous Australians had agreed to name the cruise line’s latest ships.

“Both Jess and Kate are well known and well-loved around the country. They epitomise modern Australia and really embody the new look and feel of P&O Cruises Australia so we are delighted they will be naming these very special ships – and in such a modern way,” Ms Sherry said.

“It will be a history-making day – we will have 5 ships on Sydney Harbour, a dual christening and we’ll be officially naming the ships via Twitter, which we believe is a world first.”

The ships’ naming ceremony – which will see Jessica Mauboy name Pacific Aria and Kate Ritchie name Pacific Eden – will be a highlight of P&O’s history-making 5 Ship Spectacular on Sydney Harbour on November 25.

The day will begin with the cruise line’s 5-ship fleet creating a V formation off the heads of Sydney Harbour early in the morning, as they meet for the 1st time.

The ships will then enter the Harbour single file, with Pacific Aria and Pacific Eden following their 3 big sisters. As they reach the centre of the Harbour around 8:30am, Pacific Aria and Pacific Eden will sail either side of Fort Denison, where their godmothers will name them and champagne bottles will be smashed on their bows.

The 5 ships will then berth in the Harbour, with 25 artists performing live concerts onboard for guests in the afternoon – including Jessica Mauboy on Pacific Aria. The ships will sail from Sydney in the evening following a spectacular fireworks display for Sydneysiders at 8:45pm.

Jessica Mauboy is an award-winning singer who grew up in Darwin in Australia’s north and shot to stardom in 2006 after appearing on the television show Australian Idol. Her debut 2008 album ‘Been Waiting’ scored double platinum sales and yielded 7 Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Award nominations. She has since won 2 ARIA Awards and has been nominated again for this year’s ARIA Awards.

Kate Ritchie is one of Australia’s best loved actresses, having spent 20 years as a lead on Home & Away, a role which earned her 2 Gold and 3 Silver Logies. Kate currently co-hosts the Australian Commercial Radio Award-winning Nova’s Kate, Tim & Marty national drive show alongside Tim Blackwell and Marty Sheargold. Previously, she co-hosted the extremely popular breakfast radio show on Nova 96.9 with Merrick and Rosso throughout 2008 and 2009 & appeared on Underbelly: A Tale Of Two Cities. Kate has been the host and narrator of Don’t Tell The Bride, she has starred alongside Shaun Micallef and Kat Stewart in the drama Mr & Mrs Murder and in Peter Helliar’s project, It’s A Date.

2 Australian charities will also be the beneficiaries of the event with P&O Cruises Australia making a financial contribution to charities nominated by the godmothers.

Jessica Mauboy has chosen the Indigenous Literacy Foundation as her charity for the event while Kate Ritchie is yet to announce her charity.

Regarded as game changers for the Australian cruise industry, Pacific Aria and Pacific Eden will feature a fresh, contemporary design and a host of special features from multiple restaurants and a lush private dining room to a resort-style swimming pool deck, with sheer curtains and private cabanas.
