‘Navy Helicopter Flag Display’ Renamed ‘Australian Flag Flypast’ As ‘Australia Day In Sydney’ 2027 Event Program Mostly Unveiled

The unveiling of most of the Australia Day In Sydney 2027 event program has revealed Harbourfest‘s Navy Helicopter Flag Display has been renamed Australian Flag Flypast.

The Australian Flag Flypast sees a Royal Australian Navy helicopter tow a giant Australian flag & like this year, will do a leg down & along the South Coast to Nowra in 2027. The route & estimated times are below:

  • 11:55am – Middle Head take-off
  • 11:56am – North Head
  • 12:03pm – Barrenjoey Head
  • 12:11pm – North Head
  • 12:14pm – Sydney Harbour Bridge/Goat Island
  • 12:16pm – South Head
  • 12:17pm – Bondi Beach
  • 12:18pm – Coogee/Maroubra Beach
  • 12:19pm – Cape Banks/Kamay Botany Bay National Park
  • 12:21pm – Cronulla Beach/Royal National Park
  • 12:33pm – Wollongong
  • 12:38pm – Shellharbour
  • 12:43pm – Kiama
  • 12:50pm – Comerong Island
  • 1pm – Nowra landing

Harbourfest‘s Boat Parade has also been returned to its former name of just Parade.

Program (So Far)

The Australia Day In Sydney 2027 program currently is (Spectaculars in bold):

  • 5:20am-5:40am: Dawn Reflection
  • 7am-11am: Kiama Downs Community Barbeque (BBQ)
  • 7:30am-8:30am: WugulOra Morning Ceremony
  • 7:30am-11:30am: Gerringong Community BBQ
  • 8am-12pm: Breakfast By The Lake
  • 8:30am-11:30am: Jamberoo Community BBQ
  • 9am-10:30am: 10 Kilometre (K) – The Great Australian Wheelchair Race
  • 10am-11:30am: Kiama Municipality Citizenship Ceremony
  • 10am-7pm: Yabun Festival
  • 10:30am-5pm: Harbourfest (see detailed program below) & Vintage Bus Rides
  • 1:30pm-6pm: Regatta
  • 7:30pm-9:30pm: LIVE Concert

You can enter 10K: The Great Australian Wheelchair Race now by clicking here. Events in the Sutherland local government area will be confirmed next month. Entries won’t open for the Regatta until probably sometime after mid-November while tickets to be in the Sydney Opera House Southern Forecourt audience for the LIVE concert will very likely go on sale in mid-January.

The Harbourfest 2027 program is as follows:

  • 10:30am-4pm: Mega Kidz Zone (includes Fun In The Sun & Wheelchair Basketball)
  • 11:55am-1pm: Salute (includes Australian Flag Flypast)
  • 12:10pm-12:30pm: Ferrython Fun (see detailed program below)
  • 1pm-1:30pm: Tall Ships Race
  • 1pm-2pm: Parade

Salute‘s Royal Australian Air Force contribution is not yet confirmed while applications to join Parade should open in mid-November. Working Harbour Festival is yet to be confirmed as to whether it is going ahead in 2027.

Ferrython Fun 2027 program is as follows:

  • 12:10pm-12:30pm: Ferrython Race
  • 12:15pm-12:30pm: Maritime Mayhem

Tickets to be aboard a racing ferry, if any are to be sold, will very likely go on sale in mid-January. However, they are not guaranteed to go on sale as sometimes the racing ferries are completely reserved for specially chosen community groups as a thank you for their service to Australia.

The following venues have also been confirmed to be participating in the Day:

  • Sydney Fish Market (activations)
  • Government House (open day)
  • The Rocks (markets)

However, what activations Sydney Fish Market will have in 2027 have not yet been confirmed, though they will occur in the afternoon only.

The finalised Australia Day In Sydney 2027 program should be confirmed in mid-January.

Shoalhaven Awards

Also, on the 18th of September, nominations opened for Shoalhaven’s Awards. They have to be at least 250 words long & for a person who has significantly contributed to the Shoalhaven local government area. There are 4 awards in total:

  • Citizen Of The Year (25+ years old)
  • Young Citizen Of The Year (12-24 years old)
  • Volunteer Of The Year (12+ years old)
  • Sports Achiever Of The Year (12+ years old, also open to volunteers & officials)

Nominations close on November 13 with nominators, who have to be Shoalhaven adults, going into the draw to win a AUD$500 Holiday Haven tourism pack voucher. Eligible nominations will be assessed by a Judging Panel in December.
